Employers are reeling as the ACTU demands $27pw increase as “catch up” for workers! As ACCI CEO Peter Anderson notes, employers are now left asking where their “catch up” will come from “who, by and large, are in the slow lane of a two-speed economic recovery,” and dealing with six interest rate hikes over the past year.
Regardless of federal wage increases, employers are already facing increases in staff entitlements via new Modern Awards – in some cases up to 20%!
In Anderson’s words “fairness requires attention to both sides of the industrial equation. It requires fairness to the businesses that are paying the wages, fairness to the wages of those employees, as well as protection of their jobs.”
