Since 1 January 2010, the following changes have occurred:
- Employers (except those in WA) operating under the State system, such as sole traders and partnerships, moved to the Federal system
- Most State Awards ceased to exist and employers were bound by the relevant Modern Award applying to their industry
- The Modern Awards replaced thousands of NAPSAs and Federal Awards
- The National Employment Standards took effect
